“We Believe in Christmas” takes a look back and encourages us to remember the true meaning of Christmas and the events that take place during the season.  For example, “Now when we welcome traveling guests, no matter whom we greet, remember those three traveling guests, and there will Christmas be.”

Cayden:  “There is Baby Jesus on the cover in the manger.”

Cayden:  “They are dressed up different.  I bet they are going to be in a play.”

Max:  “Star in sky!  Make wish!”

Cayden:  “What is ‘wondrous awe’?

Cayden:  “They are singing ‘Silent Night.’  I think I know that song!”

Max:  “People singing on road!”

Cayden:  “There is a person ringing a bell with a red money bucket like they do outside Pick ‘n Save!  I get to put the money in the bucket!”

Cayden:  “See!  They are in a play! “

Cayden:  “I liked the pictures in the book but there were a lot of words that I didn’t know what they meant.  I could tell what was going on by looking at the pictures though.”

Cayden:  “We need to make sure that we put money in the red bucket when they have them out!”  (Salvation Army)

Parent’s comments:
“We Believe in Christmas” by Karen Kingsbury conveys many important messages about the real meaning of the Christmas season.  I think that Cayden, at age 4, grasped some of the main points but many of the concepts and wording were a little difficult for him to comprehend.  The back of the book says that the book is for Ages 4-7 and I think that children at the latter end of that age group would get the most out of the book.  With that said, this book is a wonderful one in presenting to children the true meaning of Christmas and I think it would be an excellent addition to any child’s bookshelf!
